Buy a Blanket
We’ve written about Blanket magazine before, and the new issue (number 20, believe it or not) is out now.
There’s an interview with me in it, which is obviously reason enough for most people to part with $2, but if you still need persuading I can recommend the ‘Soul Publishers’ section, in which Blanket speaks to a selection of independent magazine publishers about what they do and why they do it.
The thing I find most interesting about Blanket is the fact that it’s a PDF magazine you have to pay for, and yet nearly all the people included in Soul Publishers are responsible for non-commercial magazines. It’s great to get a glimpse behind the scenes and see the people that sit up late into the night making a magazine just because they want to. But next time (say issue 30?) I’d be interested to see Blanket’s take on the other magazines out there that are finding innovative ways of funding themselves.
Have you hit upon a clever way of funding your own magazine? Let us know!
