Commuters! You need this magazine…
A beautiful risograph magazine printed in Brooklyn, Take Shape operates at the meeting point of architecture and politics. This second issue is themed around the commute, and it’s dedicated to understanding the systems and technologies used for moving people around the place.
Some of the stories focus on a conventional understanding of the commute, for example investigating the work done by architecture firm LA-Más to improve pedestrian and cyclist access in a particularly car-heavy area of Northeast Los Angeles. But other contributions are allowed to play with a looser concept of commuting, for example considering the ambitions of Jeff Bezos to forge a new route to the stars, and contrasting that utopian mission with the daily reality of the fossil fuels consumed to keep Amazon’s data centres and logistics supply lines running.
It’s a playful and provocative read, and the fluorescent orange and blue throughout helps the stories to really jump off the page.
