The woman who lived in a sphinx
Apartamento spotlights delightful, eccentric, messy interiors, dreamed up by exceptional people. Like Niki de Saint Phalle, a monumental sculptor who built an enormous sphinx and lived inside its left breast. A picture of Saint Phalle and her sphinx graces the cover of this issue, which also features the (very cluttered) home of American artist Katherine Bernhardt, and a series of ‘fantasy coffins’ in the shape of chickens, cars, and lions.
