Ate
Soup from Gail’s Bakery on Exmouth Market
Listened to
Jazz and ‘jazzy music’ – two very different genres, it transpires
Got sidetracked by
The opening of the first magCulture magazine shop
Went to
The London Design Festival, the Northern Design Festival in Newcastle, Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven and Dubai Design Week
Met
A whole host of really inspiring new designers with plans to change the world. For example Sheltersuit by Bas Timmer – a super-warm coat with a sleeping bag that zips onto the bottom to keep the homeless warm in the winter. Or FairPhone – an attempt to make a smart phone from conflict-free minerals.
Learned
The names of lots of obscure jazz bands: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble anyone?!
Lost sleep over
Having to be in three different countries for three different design festivals in the same week!
Was excited about
Being shortlisted for Stack’s Launch of the Year.
Was surprised by
Newcastle – what an inspiring place! It’s got a really interesting creative vibe, with new art galleries and a community of creative people making a living outside London.
