What is design worth?
The latest issue of Eye on Design is dedicated to understanding the meaning of ‘worth’, tracing the financial, emotional, societal and other types of value we ascribe to design.
It covers contentious subjects, like the status of female designers, surveying recent international design conferences to reveal the percentage of women speakers who appeared and the amount of time they actually spent on stage compared to their male counterparts. But regardless of the subject matter, it retains a lovely fresh, playful tone, thanks in large part to guest art director David Benski, whose pages are dotted with price tags for things like pretzels, transcription services and Adobe Acrobat, and whose pull quotes snake their way in and out of body copy and around the edges of the text.
We’ve written and said a LOT about Eye on Design since the first issue came out just over a year ago, so I was really pleased that we were able to deliver this latest issue to Stack subscribers last month (April 2019). If you haven’t held this magazine in the flesh that means you’re not a Stack subscriber, and of course we think you should remedy that asap – sign up and we’ll deliver a different magazine to your door every month. Or if you’re not ready to commit to our surprise magazine club, you can buy copies of Eye on Design issues three and four in the Stack shop – head over there for sample spreads, story lists and associated content…
