Juke comes to Stack
I blogged a few weeks ago about my excitement at discovering Juke magazine, so I’m very pleased to be announcing it as the latest title to join Stack.
Mixing fashion and music in a cool, grubby, bizarre and beautiful package, Juke is genuinely unique. The design is complex and fractured in some places, calm and clear in others, but the whole thing hangs together whether they’re interviewing an old-stager like Raekwon or reporting on the emergence of Odd Future and Tyler the Creator.
The writing draws upon its source material to give a real taste of the subject matter, so in the case of the Tyler story that means first-person reportage that’s smart, mean and on the spot as Odd Future get their break. But the same issue’s J. Mascis interview is almost upsettingly awkward and stilted – it’s as if Juke’s brand of music journalism wants to show you exactly what’s going on, warts and all.
It’s a great new music magazine and a worthy addition to the Stack stable. Look out for the brand new issue coming your way soon.
