Welcome Wooden Toy
Everyone knows that magazines are about more than the cover price, but I’m still pretty excited to know that Wooden Toy Quarterly (normal price something like £20) has just become the latest magazine to join Stack.
Made by Australian (but London-based) illustrator and Kaleidoscope festival organiser Timba Smits, Wooden Toy is one of the strangest, coolest, most intricately crafted magazines I’ve ever come across. The current issue comes packed in its own cardboard box, complete with a zine, a limited edition print and a certificate of authenticity.
But it’s the illustrations that really carry the day. Timba’s work is great on its own, but he combines it with pieces by some of his favourite friends and colleagues, and the result is page after page of outstanding eye candy.
Contrary to the name, new issues of Wooden Toy Quarterly don’t come out very often, so when we send it out in the near future we’ll be sending the current issue (the music issue, pictured above). If you’ve already got it, just drop me a line in the next few weeks and we’ll organise a replacement for you instead.
