Advice for aspiring filmmakers in Next to Nothing
A print magazine dedicated to the creation of film and video, Next to Nothing is published by Topsafe.tv and mixes straight up filmmaking advice with a stranger and more playful type of visual storytelling.
Take a look at the video above and you’ll see interviews with filmmakers that go into great depth on subjects like insurance, budgeting, finding locations and working with actors. But you’ll also see a sort of channel-surfing approach to presenting content, with stories that start and stop, fading in and out amid an onslaught of film and video stills.
And there’s a real delight in the physical format of the magazine too – watch through to the end to see the extra story printed inside the magazine’s dust jacket, and the magazine’s title debossed on the plain white cover.
This is the second print volume created by Topsafe – the first one landed in 2016 and impressed with its inventive, impressionistic approach to storytelling, and this latest instalment is a fitting follow up. It’s interesting to see the ways in which the publication has evolved over the last three years, and there are more issues planned so we’ll be watching to see how they keep on changing…
