Podcast: Davide Cazzaro, Nang magazine

This week’s podcast episode was recorded in May when Davide Cazzaro, publisher and editor-in-chief of Nang magazine, was in town promoting his latest issue. A magazine of Asian cinema, Nang is an experimental piece of publishing that Davide runs from Seoul in South Korea, and it was interesting to hear him speak about the opportunities he sees for ‘micropublishing’, as well as the challenges he faces in trying to reach readers.

In his definition, publishing is the process of giving shape to things, so it’s not surprising that the physicality of the magazine is important, and he explains why the masthead is laser cut into the cover, and how that was inspired by the ancient Thai shadow theatre that gave Nang its name. He also speaks about his aims in making an English-language magazine about Asian cinema, and his determination to become a “catalyst for passions”.
