Stack at home: Aww, January 2021
Aww is an “animal-themed illustration therapy” magazine. Conceived as a playground where illustrators can indulge flights of fancy, every issue is built around a central theme or idea that gives the oddness some structure. This time the issue is presented as a sort of time capsule, with illustrators saying farewell to the troubles of 2020 while looking ahead to what 2021 has in store. The front and back covers show 24 illustrators, reimagined as their “soul animals”.
Aww is an unapologetically escapist magazine, and it was fun sending out something this cheerful as our first delivery of 2021. Below, we’ve rounded up our favourite pictures sent in by subscribers. Expect lots of cats.
5. Super freak
Lovely to see one of our favourite illustrators, Super Freak, flicking through the issue.
4. Cats
We like this, from Stack subscriber Em Phillips, who has followed every single Aww artist who drew a cat.
3. More cats
Loving the sneaky paw.
2. No more screens
We are very into this teddy and his tiny hat.

1. Home schooling
This month’s winner is Ant Heald, who used Aww to spice up home-schooling!
4 year-old’s #homelearning mask task coincided with the arrival of this month’s animal-themed @stackmagazines offering of @aww.mag (@awwyours). 2021 gets weirder by the day #stackmagazines https://t.co/ScON7MXcbC pic.twitter.com/FQQ2sXQwEY
