More about this magazine
Closing Ceremony is a new platform for photographers, published in Zhejiang, China. This second issue is titled Americano, and seeks to move away from canonic portrayals of contemporary America. Instead, Closing Ceremony presents a “not-too-serious” narrative, centred around “American spirit”.
This issue comes with an extra piece of print slipped inside: Amazine, a tongue-in-cheek photography zine from Closing Ceremony that is made amazingly cheaply. All props are bought on Amazon, then returned right after the shoot, at no cost to the magazine-makers.
In this issue:
- Images of lost tourists at the bottom of Trump Tower
- Images of white, middle-class men cooking healthy food in an L.A. mansion
- The Proud Smoke: a photographic essay about American visual culture from Joël Vacheron, senior lecturer in Visual Communication at ECAL
