Event: Stack in Amsterdam
There are some outstanding magazines coming out of Amsterdam at the moment – MacGuffin won Magazine of the Year at the Stack Awards last year and Voortuin picked up Art Director of the Year, while Ordinary has been blowing minds with its extraordinary photography and Das Mag is publishing world-class fiction. And that’s to say nothing of the titles like Works That Work, which are based nearby but not actually in the city.
I had the chance to speak very briefly with the MacGuffin and Voortuin teams at our awards ceremony in November, and since then I’ve been wanting to make a trip to the city to catch up with them properly and see Amsterdam’s independent publishing scene for myself.
So on Monday 6 February we’re putting on a panel discussion at Makerversity in Amsterdam, digging into the city’s print culture and shining a light on the great work currently being done across the Netherlands. On the panel we’ll have Kirsten Algera, editor-in-chief of MacGuffin, Sim Kaart, co-founder of Voortuin, and Marc Robbemond, buyer at Athenaeum Nieuwscentrum and arguably the man who knows more than any other about this city’s independent magazine reading habits.
Tickets are available from our Eventbrite page for €7, and include a couple of free drinks. Then once they’re gone I hope you’ll join us in heading off to a bar afterwards to carry on the evening’s conversation.
