Independent magazine get together
I went to the first Glue independent publishing fair at the ICA in September last year, and it was fantastic. We had a Stack table in the main room and it was packed for the entire weekend – we sold loads of magazines and subscriptions, and had lots of great conversations with people who had come along to see what it was all about. It was so busy that I didn’t have much time for looking at the other tables, but I did manage to get around the building and I saw a lovely range of arts publishing on display.
I met the organisers, Tom Heardman and Hannah Geddes, for the first time at Glue, and since then we’ve been talking about the prospect of doing something together. So I’m very pleased to announce that next Thursday will see the first independent magazine get together, hosted by Stack and ICA.
For this first one we’ll have the makers of Hotshoe, Motor, Translator and The Wire all together in one room and ready to talk independent publishing. Come along if you love their magazines; come if you want to make a magazine yourself; come if you want to browse new issues, grab a drink and support independent publishing. We’re deliberately not making this about presentations, or listening to a talk – it’s just about having a place to come together to meet up, talk to each other, and have a good night in the company of people who are passionate about independent publishing.
Tickets are free but RSVP is essential, so please head over to our Eventbrite to reserve your place, and I’ll see you there…
