Stack at the PPA Festival
I’m looking forward to immersing myself in a day of magazines next Thursday, as the PPA Festival 2015 rolls into town. There’s a packed schedule of talks and presentations on the agenda, and I’m particularly looking forward to hearing Big Issue founder John Bird give his lecture. There are proper famous people there too, like Lauren Laverne speaking about her new online magazine The Pool, and Dylan Jones interviewed live on stage by David Hepworth.
I’ll be trying to put all that out of my head when it comes to chairing a panel on the business of independent magazines in the afternoon (it’s fine – we’ll be in a much smaller room) including the announcement of a new service from Stack.
We’ve got a great line up of magazine makers on the panel: Rob Orchard, editor and co-founder of Delayed Gratification, Rosa Park, editor and co-founder of Cereal, and Eric Campbell, creative director of Hot Rum Cow will all be digging deep into the details of what it takes to set up and run an independent magazine today. I think it’s fantastic that a big organisation like the PPA is taking an active interest in what the independents are doing, and I’m really looking forward to hearing what the panel has to say.
Tickets are still available, with discounts available for students and independent publishers, so if you make it down there please do come and say hello.
