Summer fun: Indiecon 2015
Last summer I went to Indiecon in Hamburg and had a whale of a time. An independent magazine event with a genuinely independent ethos, it was organised by the people at agency Die Brueder, and seemed to rope in every single one of their friends, family and loose acquaintances, who all gave up their spare time to put on a seriously fun programme of talks and parties.
So I was very excited to see that they’re doing it all again this year from 28 to 30 August, and was then almost instantly disappointed when I realised I can’t make those dates. But here are three reasons why you should definitely go:
1. Excellent speakers
Jeremy Leslie (magCulture), Kai Brach (Offscreen), Steven Gregor (Gym Class), Johannes Conrad (Flaneur), Ibrahim Nehme (The Outpost), Ryan Fitzgibbon (Hello Mr), Alexander Scholz (Holo), Klaus Neuburg and Sebastian Pranz (Froh!). Say no more.
2. #indiemagday
Go nuts in the 750 square metre ‘Free Trade Zone for Printed Goods’, opening at Hamburg’s Oberhafen. Browse magazines, meet the makers and buy stuff.
3. Summer School
A magazine made in five days and focusing on the Oberhafen, Indiecon Summer School will run under the expert guidance of Klaus Neuburg and Sebastian Pranz, which means it will be brilliant.
And all that’s to say nothing of the food, drink, parties and general bonhomie, of which there will be lots. Tickets are on sale now, or just turn up in Hamburg on the 28th and follow the crowds.
