The view from Magculture
Last year, as Magculture Live approached, I took a trip over to the Magculture shop to record an episode of our podcast with founder Jeremy Leslie. It was a lovely opportunity to sit down with him and speak about his preparations for the day, but even more than that, it turned into the perfect excuse for catching up more generally. We spoke about the magazines we’d enjoyed recently, and about some broader trends in magazine publishing, and I really enjoyed half an hour or so of pure, unadulterated magazine geeking. So when I saw Magculture Live rolling around again (it’s happening at the Vitsoe shop in London on Thursday 7th November) I dropped him a line to see whether he was up for a repeat date.
We had a fairly wide-ranging chat, and as you’ll hear we started by speaking about some of the high-profile magazines, like Vice and The Onion, which have recently returned to print. We spoke about changes in magazine design trends, and the forces that can influence those decisions. And there was a lot of love for Richard Turley and his many print projects – Richard will be speaking at Magculture Live and I’m really looking forward to watching that.
I hope the episode above whets your appetite for more magazine chat, and if you’re going to be in London next month I hope I’ll see you at Magculture Live. (There are Livestream tickets available too, so you can tune in wherever you are in the world.)
