Podcast: Owen Pritchard, Printed Pages magazine
You’ve seen his guide to the new issue; now hear Printed Pages editor Owen Pritchard speak about the process of making It’s Nice That’s phenomenally popular print title.
I imagine I’m probably not the only one who’s fascinated by what it must be like to work at It’s Nice That, so I invited myself over to their office last Friday morning for a chat about the making of Printed Pages magazine, and how that fits within the wider organisation. It was really interesting to hear him speaking about the commissioning process, with most stories selected from the content published on the website over the last six months, and a selection held back to appear in print first, before taking on a new life online.
The task of whittling that material down must be truly mind-boggling, and it’s testament to the care and attention they pay to the magazine that they manage to make it all work as a coherent reading experience. And as Owen says, there’s huge value in revisiting stories, and seeing the way they can change and develop once they’re committed to print.
We release a new episode of the Stack podcast every Friday afternoon, so if you’d like to hear more independent magazine makers speaking about what they do, check us out on Soundcloud or iTunes, and follow us while you’re there to have next week’s episode delivered as soon as it’s ready.
