Stack at home: California Sunday & It’s Freezing in LA!, February 2019
As an unseasonably hot February draws to a close in London, mailing out a magazine about climate change feels frighteningly timely. Earlier this month we delivered It’s Freezing in LA! (The title comes from a speech Donald Trump made in 2013 denying climate change). It’s a fresh and impassioned publication which makes for ultimately optimistic reading.
But Stack envelopes were a little fatter than usual this month. Our climate change delivery was supported by British renewable energy firm Bulb, which meant we were also able to send out copies of The California Sunday, an indie mag from the West Coast usually found inside copies of the Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle. There’s a collection of stories here informed by the Californian worldview, from the Silicon Valley tech workers organising to become social and political activists, to the ‘self-deported’ American children now living in Mexico.
Below are some of our favourite responses sent in from Stack readers around the world. And right at the bottom, you’ll find our February subscriber of the month…
7. Wahoooooooooooo!
This is the sort of excitement we like to see when a Stack delivery arrives.
6. Sloth down
We love Gillian’s background pattern for a magazine about climate change.

5. Bedtime reading
The best reading happens between the sheets.
4. Spring awakening
This is the kind of table arrangement Pinterest boards are made of.
3. Handsome frank
Illustration agency Handsome Frank knows a nice cover and a (handsome) wood floor when it sees one.
2. You are fake news!
Great captioning from a Greek subscriber here. The back-cover of It’s Freezing In LA contains more wisdom from Donald Trump.

1. California dreaming
We love this breakfast table scene, from our winner David Burbridge, who’s bringing the California sunshine to him.
