We love the compact efficiency of So Young magazine, but what does the making of the magazine look like? We grabbed five minutes with co-founders Sam Ford and Josh Whettingsteel to get their playlist for the latest issue, plus other essential insider information.

A lot of Fat White Family’s second album, ‘Songs For Our Mothers’ and then the majority of the bands that we have featured. Each magazine tends to represent a time and documents the bands we love and are listening to. So whatever you see in the mag is what we have been playing at that time. Sunflower Bean and Whitney have been lifesavers from across the pond.

Document And Eyewitness: An Intimate History of Rough Trade by Neil Taylor. We love everything about Rough Trade and how they’ve run the label and the shop from the start. They’re the heart and soul of the music industry. They gave the original punk fanzines a massive leg up by stocking them and creating a movement – we now feel privileged to be stocked by them and have a good relationship with the label. This year was their 40th anniversary. Long live Rough Trade!

Got sidetracked by
We weren’t sidetracked by anything for this issue. It’s the most determined and quickest we’ve been so far.

Met
Loads of our contributors and readers – we want to a push a real community spirit with So Young and it’s constantly growing.

Argued about
Who bought the last drink…

Realised that
It’s going to be a huge year. Nearly 10 issues, it’s our third birthday and we may even be hosting a festival stage. It’s all go!

Were relieved that
People still buy our t-shirts and allow us continue printing the magazine.

Were excited about
After several review features, we finally interviewed Fat White Family and justified popping them on our cover!

Were surprised by
Pre-orders. We don’t give anything away regarding the issue until the day it’s released. The line up, the illustrators etc… it’s all a secret. We are surprised and flattered by the trust of our readers and that they will pay in advance for something they know nothing about. They trust that we will provide something featuring bands and illustrations that they’ll love.

And everyone should buy a copy because
Because it’s our favourite issue to date and we like to think it’s well worth your time. Also, every band we’ve featured deserves three minutes in your new music schedule. We are certain that you’ll find your new favourite band in this issue.
