What is Weapons of Reason?
Weapons of Reason is a project to understand the interconnected challenges shaping our world. We’d like people to read it and then think differently about the world they live in to the extent that they become more active and engaged in both global and local issues. Maybe that’s too abstract. We want Weapons of Reason to be a kick up the backside for anyone who doesn’t yet think they can make positive change in their day-to-day lives and those of the people around them.

What makes it different to the rest?
We don’t want to be preachy. Nobody wants to be told to change their behaviour, or that they should be thinking more about the bigger picture. It’s a turn off. We just want to show our readers some different perspectives and give them the support they need if they do decide to take action.

Who makes Weapons of Reason?
Weapons of Reason is designed and published by Human After All, edited by me, and illustrated and written by a growing body of international contributors — journalists, academics, philosophers, photographers, and teachers.

Who reads it?
We want everyone to read it, from schoolchildren to senior citizens and everyone else in between. The subjects we’re exploring are relevant to everyone, and we don’t want anyone to be excluded from their discussion. So much damage is done by making important information exclusive, so we do our best to make Weapons of Reason as accessible as possible.

Why do you work in magazines?
Magazines are, and always have been, an exceptional way to communicate big ideas and complex stories to a large audience. The internet may have changed how that relationship works, but it hasn’t erased that fundamental truth.

Aside from the print magazine, what else are you involved in?
Right now the print magazine is our main focus, but in the coming months and years we’re looking to increase what we offer digitally and get stuck into organising more events that bring together the Weapons of Reason community. Eyes peeled everyone.

What would you change about Weapons of Reason if you could?
Nothing yet. We’re still in the early stages of making it. Ask us in five or 10 years and we might have more regrets.

Where do you see Weapons of Reason in five years?
In the hands of more readers. We believe in the work we do with the magazine, and want as many people as possible to have access to it.
