I’ve been really enjoying magazines coming out of the US recently. From old standbys like The New Yorker to young and intelligent feminist magazines, one can’t help but feel empowered by the way American publishers are responding to life under their current administration.

Romance Journal is a fantastic interview magazine, with each issue featuring 10 powerful, thoughtful, and creative women “awakening to their life’s purpose”. Conversations in the magazine can be characterised by their openness and eagerness to address difficult topics with patience and empathy. This second issue is themed Resistance, and speaks to activists, writers, musicians, fashion designers and more about race, gender and politics.

Published by creative studio RoAndCo, everything from the design to the typography and the full bleed still life photography is done with care and elegance. This is also a gigantic magazine, made for leisurely reading at home — watch our video review below to get a sense of it, and read our Q&A with founder Roanne Adams to find out more.
