A trip to the gym in North Korea
Made in China by Nelson Ng, Lost is a magazine about travel. Pieces featured here are all personal, and eclectic. They’re about break ups, and fear of water, and nomads. Printed bilingually, the interplay between Chinese and English script is beautifully designed. The writing is reflective, and often readable, but it’s the look of this magazine — the photographs, and the lovely exposed binding on the spine — that makes Lost such a pleasure to hold in your hands.
One particular story, by Emily Shao, about a trip to North Korea, caught our attention. Emily travels across the border from China into the country, and her picture of North Korea, and its extraordinary restrictions, is evocatively woven together out of overheard conversations, and chats with taxi drivers, gym trips and snatches of Korean pop. Shao’s photographs, particularly, are stunning.
