Travel takes a poetic turn in Desired Landscapes magazine
An experimental travel journal disguised as an unassuming city guide, Desired Landscapes magazine is interested in the subjective representation of a place. Based in Athens and focusing on its home town plus iconic global cities including LA, Tokyo and Berlin, it gives a platform for contributors to present their own very personal interpretations of urban environments.
Mixing photography, poetry, interviews and first-person prose, the result is a dense and fascinating collection of pieces inspired by cities. This first issue is a small, thick volume, and the pocket-size pages help to really draw the reader in – it feels like a personal reading experience and the deceptively bland cover only helps to heighten the sense of a secret discovered. (Though I can imagine the white text on plain purple background won’t do much to help boost sales in shops.)
Small and beautiful, this exciting new title from Athens makes for an inventive and original addition to the independent travel magazine shelves.
