Love from Indiecon 2026

Last weekend I was in Hamburg for Indiecon 2026 (and just made it home before the UK’s air traffic control fell apart). Indiecon is one of my favourite weekends of the year – it’s a lovely opportunity to spend some proper time with people who are involved in all sorts of independent publishing activities. There were magazines, zines, digital projects, printmakers, and loads of artists, and every year is brilliantly friendly, strange, and inspiring.

It was also slightly different this year because it rained. The last few years’ events have seen the sun shining at the start of September, but this year the rain absolutely hammered down, and the leaky roof in the Gleishalle had people running to cover their print and shift their tables to a dry part of the hall. But in true Indiecon fashion it all got sorted out with a bit of controlled chaos, and the show could go on.

In this episode of the Stack podcast you’ll hear six interviews, featuring the people who make Elastic, Die Quieter Please, The Gentleman, Gerador, and Mnemotope, and you’ll hear from Joohee, who runs Supersonic Studio in Korea. It’s obviously impossible for me to represent hundreds of publishers from all over the world in one podcast, but editing this one together I do think it gives a good sense of the atmosphere at Indiecon last weekend. It was all really interesting and loads of fun, and I hope you’ll enjoy dipping into some of the conversations I had while I was walking around the tables.
