Stack independent magazines 2025 – part 1
It’s happening again. We’re coming to the end of another year of independent magazine deliveries, which means it’s the perfect time to slow down, look back, and take stock of our year in print.
Every month, as well as sending magazines to our subscribers, we also invite people to join us for a Zoom call with the publishers, editors and designers who make those magazines. It’s a lovely opportunity to get closer and hear the stories behind the stories, so I’ve revisited all those recordings from 2025 to pull together this audio overview of the year.
This first part will cover our deliveries from January to June, and you’re going to hear from the people who make Broadcast from Brooklyn, Solomiya from Kyiv, Skin Deep here in London, the New York Review of Architecture from New York (of course), Playground from Vilnius and Stockholm, and No One from Amsterdam.
They’re all very different from each other, but as I was editing this together, I was struck by the seriousness of purpose that unites so many of them. These are magazines driven by strong social and cultural agendas, and I think that’s a big part of what makes them so interesting, and so impactful.
They’re also all very beautifully produced, and of course since we’re just a few weeks away from Christmas I have to say that they make for a wonderful gift. So while you’re listening to this, if you find yourself thinking of someone you know who would love to receive a different magazine surprise every month in 2026, just sign up for a new subscription, and we can start sending our selection of great independent publishing their way.
I hope you enjoy this quick look back at our independent magazines in 2025. Part two will follow in a couple of weeks, covering our deliveries from July to December, and if you want to make sure you hear that, just follow us wherever you get your podcasts and we’ll be able to send it to you as soon as it’s ready.
