How to design a magazine
I’m writing this on my first day back from the Christmas break, and we’re jumping straight back into our programme of events with an evening on How to Design a Magazine, on Wednesday 18th January. One of the things I want to show with these events is that there are many different ways of producing independent magazines, and for this event we have two very different magazines, produced by two very different designers:
Emmanuelle Goutal is a French art director who works for clients including Red Valentino, Estée Lauder, and COS. Her interiors magazine Objection takes a fresh look at interior design, providing a beautiful and provocative look at designed objects in the home, one room at a time.
John Holt stops short of calling himself a designer, but he’s the creative force behind the brilliantly powerful and personal LAW magazine, which uses fashion, folklore, and everyday observations as a way of exploring what it means to be an English man today.
We’ll also be joined once again by our supporters Park Communications, who will be on hand to show a selection of the independent magazines they have produced recently, and to offer their advice on the practicalities of printing. It’s all happening at Colours on Hoxton Square from 6pm, so come along and join us for a great night talking about the process of designing and publishing your own magazine. Tickets cost £6, or if you’re a student just email us from your university account and I’ll send you a 100% discount code so you can attend for free.
