Podcast: Jaap Biemans, Coverjunkie
This week’s episode of the podcast is one of my favourites so far. Jaap Biemans, better known as Coverjunkie, is a massive fan of magazines, and as well as making them (he’s art director of Volkskrant magazine in the Netherlands) he has turned his passion into a fantastic resource that provides both a historical overview and an up to the minute snapshot of print publishing.
He’s a genuine magazine expert, and he’s also remarkably friendly, so when I was in Amsterdam last month I dropped in at his house for a quick chat on my way to the airport. Listen to the podcast below and you’ll hear him speaking about the phenomenon of Donald Trump as a cover star, plus the power and the restrictions of social media, and where the ‘Coverjunkie’ name came from. (Spoiler alert: he didn’t make it up himself.)
If you enjoy this one you’ll also find lots more conversations with magazine makers on our Soundcloud and iTunes pages, and if you follow us we’ll deliver next week’s episode straight to your device as soon as it’s ready. We’re going to be off at EDCH in Munich next weekend, so listen out for interviews featuring some of that event’s speakers coming up on the podcast over the next few weeks.
