Popping up in Amsterdam
Athenaeum Nieuwscentrum is hands down one of the best magazine shops in the world. It has a fantastic range of titles with stands opening out onto the street, and when the sun shines people sit outside the cafes and bars nearby, flippng through their new reads. It’s a magazine-lover’s paradise, so I’m hoping we’ll get some sunshine on Thursday 22 May when I drop in to interview Playground magazine’s creative director and editor-in-chief Austė Skrupskytė Cullbrand.
She’s normally based between Stockholm and Vilnius, but a new issue of the magazine is on its way, so we’re meeting up in Amsterdam to promote issue three and its theme, “a manifesto for the creative industries”. I’ll be interviewing her at Athenaeum, speaking about the ideas behind the magazine, the stories in the latest issue, and how the project has changed along the way. And I’m told there will be plenty of free drinks afterwards, so I’m hoping we’ll have the opportunity for hanging around and chatting with some of the city’s indepedent publishers and magazine lovers.
It’s all starting at 6.30pm, but come along to browse the magazines beforehand, and of course pick up a copy of Playground so you can see what it’s all about. See you in Amsterdam!
