Football, fashion and music in Gaffer magazine
Gaffer magazine is optimistic about the future. Profiling the next generation of British footballers and musicians and photographing them in lavish fashion shoots, it projects a positive, enthusiastic picture of youth culture that’s built on talented newcomers working their way up from humble beginnings.
Of course the search for young heroes on and off the football pitch is nothing new, but Gaffer pulls off a neat trick to cast its would-be stars in a different light. The England Under-17s football team won the Under-17s World Cup in 2017, and the magazine begins by profiling select members of that ‘Young Lions’ side, introducing the team with a bombastic overview followed by individual photo shoots and interviews. The result is that these are kids you’ve probably never heard of before, but they’re also bona fide winners of a major tournament with their entire careers ahead of them.
It’s enticingly energetic stuff – take a look at the video above to see our guided flick through the issue, and if you like what you see, head over to the Stack shop to pick up your copy.
